Verizon isn’t the cheapest provider out there, but their rates aren’t sky-high, either—and they’re a very good value for the money.  They offer an excellent plan called Unlimited Freedom Essentials, which starts at $39.95 and offers not only free long distance and roaming, but also unlimited local and national minutes. The price is well worth it for the reliability of the network and the excellent support—especially if you hate to count the minutes you use each month.

Coverage is important to consider when you’re comparing plans, and Verizon’s is one of the most extensive.  It covers just about all the Eastern United States, and the more heavily populated areas of the West as well.
Of course, it’s not all about cell phone service anymore.  Most wireless carriers are trying to get customers to sign up for other services such as internet connections and even cable TV in a bundled package, and Verizon is getting into the game, too.  They offer high-speed DSL and DirecTV services at deeply discounted rates.

DSL services include a self-install kit, a modem, live technical support, and a broad package of online tools including a firewall, antispam software, parental control, and an antivirus program.  The DSL service starts at $14.95 per month, and they offer a free first month to new members.  The connection is known to be very reliable, with hardly any system failures or slowdowns. 

DirecTV usually starts at around $44.95 per month, but Verizon will give you a deal on DirecTV’s Total Choice package, which includes HBO, Starz, Showtime Unlimited, and Cinemax, for $29.95 per month for the first three months.  They’ll also install the service in up to four rooms for free.  

In general, the bundled services are a great deal—and there’s a lot to be said for the convenience of getting it all on one bill.  Verizon targets cost-conscious consumers, but their services are also quality-conscious—so even if they aren’t the cheapest available, you’re getting a lot of value for your money.  If you’re looking for an economical plan that doesn’t cut corners—a rare find these days—Verizon’s cellular services are an excellent choice.
