T-Mobile Cell Phone and Sidekick Deals
T-Mobile received J.D. Power’s top rating for customer service recently, and it gets high marks for its GSM network—making it highest rated among wireless providers for international service. Its reception is generally good, and it has a very wide coverage area. According to their coverage map, they even cover quite a bit of the rural West—something you won’t find with many other wireless companies. They receive high reviews for reception and cost-effectiveness as well.

Basic
Plus is T-Mobile’s
starter plan—at $29.99, you get 300 monthly minutes, plus free weekends. It includes voice mail, caller ID, and conference calling. You can also add on BlackBerry services for an extra fee.
Get
More is T-Mobile’s flagship
plan, and it’s a very good deal. There are several different versions for $39.99—600 minutes a month with unlimited nights and weekends, 1000 or 1500 minutes a month without. Despite the hefty minute loads of the latter two plans, the first still works out to be the better deal as long as you’re not bothered by talking more on evenings and weekends—600 anytime minutes a month is plenty for most people. You can also raise the monthly price and get a maximum of 5000 minutes plus unlimited nights and weekends for $129.99 per month.
With T-Mobile, there are several add-on features you can use to enhance your basic rate plan:
BlackBerry Unlimited
This allows you to use your BlackBerry to browse the web and access e-mail.
CallerTunes
This is a unique service which lets you control what your callers hear as they call you—instead of the usual ring, you can let them listen to music or even short speech clips.
Equipment Protection
This is insurance coverage for your wireless hardware, and it only costs $3.99. It’s definitely worth it, especially if you have an expensive cell phone such as the SideKick or the RAZR. You have to make up your mind quickly, however; you can only sign up for it within the first seven days after you activate your phone.
Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile
This isn’t included in T-Mobile’s monthly plans, as it is for most other carriers. However, the fact that its basic Get More plan offers a generous 600 anytime minutes a month makes up for it. You can add on unlimited mobile-to-mobile for around $6 extra per month.
International Serviceh
This isn’t included with the basic monthly plans either, but the add-on rates are competitive. There’s no monthly fee for international calls, although you will have to pay per-minute. T-Mobile gets you discounted services to Mexico and Canada for an extra fee of $4.99 per month.
You really do get more with T-Mobile—they’re
surprisingly cost-effective for
the generous minutes they offer. Add to that good customer service, sound quality, network dependability and coverage, and you’ve got one of the best and most competitive companies out there for wireless services. |
