Cingular Wireless Cell Phone Plans

Cingular Wireless is a solid company which provides affordable plans with a liberal helping of minutes.  They do a very good job in covering hard-to-reach areas, and their customer service ranking is also respectable.  Overall, they’re one of the better wireless companies out there.

Cingular’s starter plan is the aptly-named Nation 450, which gives you 450 anytime minutes and will cost you $39.99 per month. It’s a tough one to beat—on top of those anytime minutes, you get 5000 night and weekend minutes.  It doesn’t sound as good as unlimited nights and weekends—but most of us don’t use more than 5000 minutes monthly altogether, let alone on nights and weekends alone.  You also get free mobile-to-mobile, long distance, rollover, and roaming, which makes this one of the more generous plans available in this price range.

Of course, if you need more minutes, you can always go with the Nation 900—or work your way up to the Nation 6000.  All rate plans higher than the 450 will give you unlimited nights and weekends, and all include the 450’s freebies, including rollover.

Coverage is key—and Cingular’s is highly rated.  They cover almost all the East Coast and the more populated regions of the West, as well.  Although coverage in more isolated areas can be sparse, Cingular doesn’t charge roaming fees—which will save you quite a bit of money.

One attractive thing about Cingular is that their phones all come equipped with a “SIM card.”  This is a memory card which stores your phone number, phone book, wireless network and account.  If you want to buy a new phone, all you have to do is take the SIM card out of your old phone and pop it in the new one.

Consumer reviews rank Cingular’s coverage system very highly.  They do a better job than other carriers of ensuring coverage outside of major metropolitan areas and highways.   They can accomplish this partly through their extensive tower network, and partly in partnership with other cell phone companies’ towers.   However, there’s no big difference in service between Cingular’s towers and those of other companies; the service is consistent no matter whose tower you’re using.  And because Cingular doesn’t charge for roaming, your checkbook won’t take any unexpected hits.

Cingular is a great wireless company, especially for those who live in more rural areas.  With their solid and dependable record for coverage, they’ll never leave you high and dry—and features like rollover, free roaming, and free long distance ensure you’ll never get a surprise in the mail.  Overall, they’re a smart choice as a wireless provider.
